CAROLE ANN SWEENEY: HIGH HOPES AND OPTIMISM TURN TO SAD ENDING...

Our lasting memory of classmate Carole Ann Sweeney (Mitchell) will be from visiting with her at the NHHS'60 December, 2008, Holiday Luncheon at Monte Cello's Italian Restaurant.

A year earlier, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. But in December, Carole was bubbling with the news she had been mis-diagnosed, and all was well. However, five months later in May of 2009, the dastardly disease struck again. And on July 6, 2009, Carole succumbed to cancer and passed away quietly with her family at her bedside.

The 1960 yearbook reminds us Carole was "dependable and always ready to help." She was active in many class activities at NHHS, including Pep Club, FHA, Commercial Club and the Yearbook staff. She served as President of the Commercial Club and held the position of Treasurer in the FHA.

Following graduation from North Hills, she was married to Charles Leibeck and later divorced. Carole re-married Ray Mitchell and he died several years later from cancer.

During her working years, Carole was employed as a receptionist, and held administrative positions with serveral local medical doctors and dentists, including Dr. John Allen, DDS, of Bellevue. Dr. Allen was the father of NHHS classmate Jay Allen.

In addition to a twin brother, Jim "Mickey" Sweeney and his family, Carole is survived by a son, Jeffrey Liebeck, and his wife Sharon. She was most proud of Jeffrey, who is a lawyer living in Buffalo, NY.

At Carole's request there was no viewing or service. The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Schellhaas Funeral Home & Creamation Services, Inc of West View...
