Roy Myers, 69, Passes Away Suddenly and Unexpectedly Following a Short Illness...

We are sad to report that classmate and friend Roy Myers of Greenville, PA passed away on October 20, 2011 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Roy had been dealing with pneumonia over the summer months prior to developing congestive heart failure and fibrosis of the lung. His death was sudden and unexpected.

Roy totally enjoyed our class gatherings and was a regular at the December Holiday Luncheons. Actually, the last time we spoke with Roy, he was in a celebratory mode as wife Joyce, who after battling cancer, had just been declared cancer-free. Joyce asked us to pass along a "thank you" to all of Roy's classmates for the friendships that he so cherished.

Following graduation from NHHS, he followed his initial plan and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served six years. Roy went onto LaRoche College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree, then embarked on a 30+ year career with Allegheny County in children and youth services.

Over the years, he served as 7th district commander disabled veterans, senior vice commander chapter 55 disabled veterans, and was a lifetime member of American Legion post 296 in Sharon, PA. In addition, Roy gave 25 years of service to the Pennsylvania hunter-trapper education program, and was a certified lay speaker at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Sandy Lake.

Roy, who had no children, is survived by his wife Joyce, his mother and father-in-law, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church and funeral arrangements were handled by the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home, Ltd, of Sheakleyville, PA. Roy Myers was one of the "good guys" and we will miss him dearly...
